Details Announced for Stuff the School Bus of South Wood County

  • It’s “Stuff the Bus” time of year again! This annual school supply drive and distribution, coordinated by a collective effort of WRPS employees and community agencies, is scheduled for August 11th (school supply drive) and August 19th (distribution).  We need help from our fellow community members, in a number of ways. Below is a list of several ways you can help:
    • Be a volunteer! We need volunteer help on set-up day, Thurs., Aug. 18th and on distribution day, Friday, August 19th.  The “Stuff the Desk” event is held at Lincoln High School, and volunteers may sign up for a 3-hour shift during the day. Please contact Amy Fluno at United Way to volunteer.
    • Donate! We are pleased to accept both monetary and supply donations to support this event.  Monetary donations may be made to “Stuff the Bus”, c/o Mary Schultz, 351 Oak Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. Donations of school supplies are also accepted throughout the summer at Central Office. The following items are especially needed:  backpacks, 1” binders, pencil boxes, markers, calculators, flash drives – please view entire “wish list” listed below.
    • Spread the word! Students K4-12th grade will be receiving a flier about the event, including a registration form to be filled out and brought to the event, but more advertising help is needed.  Please share information about the event with your friends and families.  Also, if you know somebody who needs supplies, encourage them to keep and bring their own backpack to the event to be filled with supplies, and get a free cookie!

Volunteers Needed

 

Do you know a child who needs school supplies? Plan on attending Stuff the Desk

  • Children and families who need financial support qualify for Stuff the Desk. School supplies will be distributed at Lincoln High School (1801 16th St. S., Wisconsin Rapids) on Friday, August 19th from 7:00am - 6:00pm.
  • To participate, bring your children to Stuff the Desk, bring a perishable food item (to be donated to local food pantries) and fill out an application. Translating services are available.

    • Simply fill out and bring to Stuff the Desk on August 19th, 2011. You do not need to pre-resigister or mail this form to anybody.

About Stuff the School Bus/Stuff the Desk

  • Stuff the School Bus is a collaborative effort of several local non-profit, government and school agencies including:  Caring Closet, the Family Center, Inc., Nekoosa School District, Port Edwards School District, the Salvation Army, the UW Extension Office, United Way of Inner Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Rapids Family Resource Center, Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools and surrounding schools.
  • Every year, the Stuff the School Bus/Stuff the Desk Committee asks the community to actually stuff a school bus with donations of school supplies.   The event is held during Lunch By The River.  Later, the donated school supplies are distributed to local, needy children during the Stuff the Desk event.  All families who are in financial need are eligible;  they simply need to attend Stuff the Desk, bring a canned food item to donate to area food pantries, and fill out an application.
